At West Island Mental Health, our team of social workers offers compassionate guidance and practical support to help you navigate transitions such as:
Moving to a new home or city
Starting or losing a job
Relationship changes, including marriage or divorce
Grieving the loss of a loved one

Burnout
Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion that can result from ongoing stress — often related to work, caregiving, or personal demands. It may show up as:
- Chronic fatigue
- Difficulty sleeping
- Reduced motivation or focus
- Feelings of detachment or discouragement
We provide a supportive space to help you identify the sources of burnout and explore practical tools to restore balance, set boundaries, and reconnect with your needs and values. Together, we’ll work toward building resilience and reclaiming your well-being.
Stress Management
While stress is a normal part of life, it can become overwhelming when left unaddressed. Our social work–based approach to stress management helps you explore the sources of your stress and build practical strategies to manage it in a healthier way. We focus on:
- Grounding and relaxation techniques
- Mindfulness and emotional awareness
- Building healthy routines and coping tools
- Improving time management and setting boundaries
Our goal is to support you in developing sustainable ways to reduce stress and strengthen your overall well-being.

Panic & Intense Anxiety Episodes
Experiencing sudden waves of fear, physical discomfort, or intense anxiety can be frightening and disorienting. At West Island Mental Health, we offer a calm, supportive space to help you understand what you're going through and learn strategies to feel more in control during those moments.
We proudly support individuals across the West Island — including Pointe-Claire, Dorval, Kirkland, DDO, Île-Bizard, and Beaconsfield — as they work toward greater peace of mind and emotional stability.

Understanding Panic Experiences
Some individuals experience sudden and overwhelming waves of fear or discomfort that may feel out of the blue. These episodes can be intense and unsettling, often accompanied by physical sensations such as:
A racing heartbeat or noticeable heart palpitations
Tightness or discomfort in the chest
Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or unsteady
Sudden sweating or feeling chilled
Trembling or shaking sensations
Feeling nauseous or experiencing stomach discomfort
Difficulty breathing or feeling short of breath
Feeling disconnected from your surroundings or from yourself
These experiences can feel overwhelming and may create ongoing worry about them happening again, making day-to-day life more difficult to manage.

Our Support Approach
At West Island Mental Health, we offer a compassionate and individualized approach to help you manage panic and regain a sense of control. Our work is grounded in building trust, understanding your experience, and providing practical tools. Support may include:

- Reducing Avoidance: Gently supporting you as you regain comfort in situations that may have felt overwhelming, at a pace that feels safe for you
- Calming Techniques: Practicing skills such as grounding, mindful breathing, and relaxation exercises to reduce physical symptoms and emotional intensity

- Daily Well-Being Support: Exploring how routines like sleep, nutrition, movement, and self-care can help stabilize your emotional and physical well-being
